I expect violence, no matter what. Violence now is predictable when federal emergency teams go to help communities hit by floods, fires, train derailments, chemical clouds. Violent, armed American thugs and their social media feeders have been normalized. So vote.
The Washington Post’s owner, Jeff Bezos, has just put his ownership of the newspaper into the electoral process.
I am emotional about the Post. That truth colors my reaction to Bezos' fiat.
Separating as much as I can facts from feelings, I see Bezos, the owner of a culturally, historically, politically crucial newspaper that has moved the course of the United States and the world repeatedly during our lifetimes intruding into the news and opinion functions of his property to quash an opinion piece of world significance, on the same day that his rocket company leaders meet with Trump.
Bezos put his personal profit above the responsibilities that he married when he bought the Post. And why?
Within the ecosystem of Democracy, the Washington Post has been a mother tree, providing nutrients and fostering scions around the world - during our lifetimes. The Post has won 76 Pulitzer prizes for its work. Post journalists have received 18 Nieman Fellowships and 368 White House News Photographers Association awards. To destroy its credibility, its trustworthiness, with this despicable act does far worse than break my heart or piss off thousands of readers. And it is a destruction of credibility. You can't trust the Post is the message. This is a serious blow to one of the engines of Democracy.
So vote.
The malicious Inquisition politics of the Republican Party are beneath contempt.
On the Fox News Channel’s The Five, host Jesse Watters said that if he found out his wife “was going into the voting booth and pulling the lever for Harris, that’s the same thing as having an affair…. That violates the sanctity of our marriage.” Christian pastor Dale Partridge posted: “In a Christian marriage, a wife should vote according to her husband’s direction. He is the head and they are one. Unity extends to politics. This is not controversial.” But, he added, “submission does have limits. A wife doesn’t need to submit to her husband in sin (in this case voting democrat).”
These people never got past the 15th century.
Also, Tucker Carlson has announced to the world that as he slept, a demon clawed him and left him bleeding.
So, I guess he took too much of the brown acid at Woodstock.
Unfortunately, these are just stupid distractions. The reality is that the GOP plans to destroy the world.
The planet is ‘on the brink of an irreversible climate disaster,’ scientists warn
Earth’s climate in 2024 is “in a major crisis with worse to come if we continue with business as usual,” a team of 14 climate scientists warned in “The 2024 state of the climate report: Perilous times on planet Earth.” The report did not sugarcoat their view of the dangers humanity is facing.
“We are on the brink of an irreversible climate disaster,” the report begins. “This is a global emergency beyond any doubt. Much of the very fabric of life on Earth is imperiled. We are stepping into a critical and unpredictable new phase of the climate crisis.”
The report is the latest such annual peer-reviewed paper published in the journal BioScience by an international team of scientists led by Oregon State ecologist William Ripple.
“Of course, the situation is not hopeless,” wrote Harvard science historian and study co-author Naomi Oreskes via email. “What we want people to understand is that, while there has been progress – particularly in the price and deployment of renewables – it’s not nearly enough. And the atmosphere does not respond to our intentions. It responds to chemistry.”
Donald Trump has stated that he plans another US retreat from global climate diplomacy if he wins a second term in the White House, promising to once again abandon the landmark Paris Agreement that he calls “horrendously unfair.”
Why iterate further?
